The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland: 21 Years On

This one-hour radio documentary for LMFM Radio, funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland under their Sound & Vision Scheme, charts the amazing history of the last 21 years of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland while following the group through their final workshops in early 2017 for their large arena performances taking place across Ireland and the UK.

Featuring interviews with Sharon Treacy-Dunne, Founder of the CBOI, and Greg Beardsell, Musical Director, along with soloists Patricia Treacy, Eoin Hynes, Zena Donnelly, Lauren Murphy and Cormac Keegan, we also hear from members of the orchestra from North and South, including the Colmcille Pipe Band, Harris Piping, the Michelle Johnston School of Highland Dance and the Rooney O’Malley Maguire School of Irish Dancing.

Teachers and pupils involved in the Peace Proms from all across Ireland & from Liverpool are also featured, talking about how taking part in the Peace Proms has been a major event for them over the last number of years.The documentary highlights the important role the Orchestra has played not only in building and nurturing vital cross-border and cross-community relations, but in offering young Irish musicians the chance to perform on stage to audiences of thousands across the globe.
